Write a "Letter to the Editor"
Writing an opinion letter to a local newspaper is an excellent means to "get the word out" and spark conversation. A letter could be as simple as a paragraph stating your passion and reasoning for electing Jim Schottmuller to the Ramsey County Board of Commissioners.
Your letter could reach thousands of readers to influence public opinion. You also have an opportunity to initiate good discussion and invoke questions about how good government should run.
If you submit a letter, please contact us so we can watch for the publication as well. Happy writing!
Suggestions:
- Be Short and to the Point. Newspapers have word limits for letters to the editor. It's best to keep your letter to 150 words or less.
- Get Personal. Your letter should tell YOUR story and why Jim's plans could help you or your family.
- Get Local. Remind editors how Jim's plans would help people in your local area, community, economy, etc.
- Proofread. Use spell check and proofread the letter carefully to increase the chance you'll be published.
- Be sure to sign your letter and provide your mailing address and telephone number. Some newspapers contact letter writers to make sure they are "for real."
- Review our brochures and campaign materials if you need some language and points to include in your letter.
